Take time to speak to the keepers as you walk around the sanctuary. They will give you precious insights into the work of the sanctuary, and the fascinating characters and backgrounds of the monkeys themselves.
The Monkey Sanctuary is a visitor attraction with a clear purpose, and you will be enthralled by your visit. You can even "adopt" a monkey, or arrange to be a "keeper for the day" in order to get a real behind-the-scenes experience.
Before you leave, be sure to visit the peaceful Treetop Cafe, where you will find a range of lovely local food and drinks in an attractive, rustic hillside setting.

The Monkey Sanctuary, Looe
the insiders' guide to everything that's great about Devon and Cornwall
We like the Monkey Sanctuary, near Looe in Cornwall, because it is a real sanctuary where the emphasis is on education, conservation and protection of these special and endangered creatures, whilst also being an entirely captivating visitor attraction.
The Monkey Sanctuary is housed in beautiful forestry and gardens, perched high above the cliffs just outside Looe. It's worth a visit for the views and tranquility of the place alone.
When you enter the sanctuary, an experienced keeper will introduce you to the sanctuary and its monkeys, and will give you a few tips to help you enjoy your visit whilst also respecting the monkeys whose home this is. Of course you will want to observe the monkeys in their beautiful habitat, but also bear in mind that the monkeys need to re-adapt to life in the wild, so staring at them, making a lot of noise, or generally invading their privacy isn't helpful to them.
That's what makes the place so special. It's definitely not a "zoo" - it's the monkeys' home, and your role when you visit is to observe them quietly and discretely. You will be utterly charmed by their beauty, and by the apparent intensity of their thoughts and actions as they move deftly and with purpose through their well-equipped and carefully planned enclosures.
