Railways in Devon and Cornwall:
Mainline trains
Mainline rail services through Devon and Cornwall are principally operated by Virgin (inter-city services) and First Great Western (inter-city and local services).
From Exeter, the main line heads west, soon reaching the coast at Dawlish. From Dawlish to Teignmouth the line sweeps along the seafront, with spectacular views as a result, before heading back inland to Newton Abbot and Totnes. Plymouth is the next major stop, before heading west across the breathtaking Brunel railway bridge across the River Tamar into Cornwall. After passing through towns including Liskeard, Bodmin and Truro, the train finally arrives in Penzance - truly the "end of the line", and Britain's most westerly mainline station.
The scenic Devon and Cornwall branch lines connect with the main line as follows:
Exeter St Davids - change for the Exmouth line
Plymouth - change for the Tamar Valley line to Gunnislake
Liskeard - change for the Looe Valley line
Par - change for the Atlantic Coast line to Newquay
St Erth - change for the St Ives Bay line
